The Monday Minute: Artificial Intelligence (AI)

July 14, 2025

Artificial Intelligence (AI) isn’t just science fiction anymore — it’s in your phone, your car, and even your office. But what is AI, really?

AI refers to machines or software that mimic human intelligence. That means it can learn, problem solve, recognize patterns, and even make decisions often faster and more accurately than humans. Think of voice assistants like Siri, recommendation engines on Netflix, or self-parking cars. These are all powered by AI.

The question that I am getting most often now is “how will it affect our lives?”  There are several ways that it will effect us moving forward over the next few years

Work & Jobs:  AI is automating routine tasks — from scheduling appointments to analyzing huge sets of data (think analyst roles). While this boosts productivity, it could replace some jobs, especially repetitive ones. At the same time, it’s also creating demand for new roles in tech, ethics, and AI oversight.

Daily Life:  Expect smarter homes, safer transportation, and personal assistants that understand you better over time. AI will be woven into everyday convenience.

Healthcare:  AI is diagnosing diseases earlier, customizing treatments, and managing patient data more efficiently. It might not replace doctors, but it will almost certainly help them make better decisions with patient care.

AI raises ethical issues as well such as data privacy, bias, and accountability (who’s responsible if an AI tool makes a mistake?)

AI is powerful and it enhances what humans can do.  In some instances, it might even be able to replace tasks that humans complete today.  This is already happening in some company’s today.  AI is the future and it’s arriving fast.  I encourage everyone to consider how AI might affect them in their daily lives, especially their work, and try to plan accordingly.
